Research History

Extraordinary research conducted in the 1990s greatly advanced our understanding of health, injury, and disease in the central nervous system (brain, spinal cord, sensory and motor nerves). And breakthrough research in the field of immunology has deeply enhanced our understanding of the immune system-how it defends the body against infection, and even how it can sometimes contribute to illness and injury. New discoveries have taught us that medical disorders previously thought to be unrelated do have things in common. Also, researchers who used to think they had little in common now see that they share interests and need to work together.
